Older Children's Attendance

Older children may need to attend, with staff or volunteers, during times when the school holidays/inset days do not match those of our setting.

During these sessions when older children attend, their behaviour must not adversely affect the registered children attending the setting.

These children are under the care of their parent/carer and staff attention must not be diverted away from the registered children attending the setting.

The following procedures must be carried out prior to older children attending:

  • A risk assessment must be carried out annually to assess the potential risks regarding older children attending (updated more regularly if needed).
  • Suitable activities must be available to occupy older children whilst they are present.
  • Older children must be noted in the accompanied children and toddlers section of the register, so we are fully aware of who is in the building at any time.
  • No charge must be made for any older child attending; we are registered to provide care for children 2 years 6 months - 5 years on the early years register.
  • Children's behaviour must be appropriately managed by their parent/carer at all times.
  • Staff volunteers must inform the play leader in charge of the session, prior to bringing the child; this should be noted in the playgroup daily diary.
